This Is Not a Monarchy: Why Tomorrow Matters

Tomorrow, June 14th, Americans across the country are gathering to make their voices heard. They're calling it No Kings Day—and I support the message behind it. We are not a monarchy. We never have been. And no man, no matter how loud, litigious, or lionized, is above the law or the Constitution.

As someone who stood on the front lines during the January 6th insurrection, I know what happens when people follow a man instead of a mission. I watched as a violent mob—fueled by lies and loyalty to one person—turned on the democracy they claimed to love. I saw what happens when truth is twisted and fear becomes weaponized.

If you believe in this work and want to support my continued efforts to protect democracy and elect principled leaders, please consider subscribing and sharing this newsletter.

That’s why I believe protest is not only powerful—it’s patriotic. But it must be peaceful.

So if you're planning to take to the streets tomorrow at 1900 local time to protest Donald Trump’s return to the national stage, I have a few things I want you to remember—not as a former officer, but as a fellow American who loves this country just like you do:

1. Know Why You're Marching

You're not protesting a person. You're protesting the idea that any one person can claim permanent power. You're standing up for accountability, for truth, and for the basic promise that in America, power belongs to the people—not a wannabe king.

2. Be Smart. Be Safe.

Carry water. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring signs, not weapons. If you see someone trying to hijack the moment for violence or destruction, speak up or step away. We’ve learned the hard way what chaos looks like. Don’t let anyone use your voice as cover for their aggression.

3. Stand United, Not Uniform

You don’t have to agree on everything to stand together. Democrats, Republicans, independents—anyone who believes in democracy should be welcome. This isn’t about partisanship. It’s about principle.

4. Respect Law Enforcement, Even If You’re Frustrated

I won’t pretend every department gets it right. But remember—many officers are just trying to do their jobs and keep people safe, like I tried to do on January 6th. Treat them with the dignity that was denied to so many of us that day.

June 14th is Donald Trump's birthday. That’s no accident. But No Kings Day isn’t just about him. It’s about ensuring our country never bows to authoritarianism, personality cults, or political violence again.

This is your right. Your voice. Your moment.

Just remember: the power of protest doesn’t come from rage—it comes from resolve.

I'll be watching. I'll be supporting. And I’ll be hoping we show the world what true patriotism looks like.

Peacefully.

Harry Dunn
