Four Years Ago, Donald Trump’s Supporters Tried To Kill Me And Destroy Our Country
I will never forget the moment I stood my ground. I’m ready to do it again.
Four years ago was the darkest day in my life. It was January 6, 2021, and I was an officer defending our Capitol Building against Donald Trump’s supporters.
Four years later, Washington, D.C. is facing its biggest snowstorm in years. Writing this piece I often think about what would have happened if the snowstorm happened four years ago instead. There would have been no insurrection. There would have been a peaceful transition of power. The snowstorm came four years too late.
The ripples from that day still threaten our democracy. The lives of election workers, the backbone of our electoral systems, are being threatened online and on the ground.
Where were you on January 6, 2021? I was at the Capitol Building, immersed in a profane mix of sweat, screams, shrieks, anger, fear, blood, death, broken limbs, spit, hatred, horror, racism, bigotry, and heroism.
Capitol and DC police officers fought hand-to-hand. Many of us thought we were going to die. Some of us did. We were cursed; doused with bear and pepper spray; and beating with sticks, pipes, batons, shields, bike racks, and even the American flag. They broke the law, violated police officers, attacked us, and then went back and said we did it in the name of Donald Trump. And now, Donald Trump is going to pardon them and say it’s okay, all is forgiven.
January 6, 2021 was a frightening wake-up call that our democracy, the thing we hold so precious, can be taken from us if we don’t protect it. My fellow officers and I gave it our all on January 6th. We stood our ground, and because we did, our democracy is still standing.
And I still stand, and I continue to fight. It’s why I testified before the January 6th Committee, it is why I testified in two trials of Oath Keepers, it is why I ran for Congress, and it is why I am writing this Substack piece today.
I am standing my ground today not because I want something for me, but because I want accountability. I want the people responsible for that day, including Donald Trump, to pay a price, just like we paid a price.
I want us to never repeat a day like that. I will always be standing my ground to make sure our democracy exists. Now, I am asking you to stand with me so that nothing like this ever happens again.
Four years after that devastating day, I am stronger than ever and ready to fight back. Throughout today you will see me on TV talking about that day. You will also hear from many of my fellow officers who defended our Capitol. We will not forget the events of January 6, 2021.
We will get through this. We will use our collective voice and fight back. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber to support my efforts and gain access to exclusive content below:
Always in service,
Harry
Thank you for your service that day, Harry. And even more for your continued dedication to keeping the true memory of that horrific day alive. All who are trying to rewrite history should be silenced by the truth tellers—including those of us who were riveted to events as they unfolded on national television. We saw your pain and will never believe otherwise. Power to the People.
I will never forget the day the Capital Police (including yourself) fought to save our democracy! Your bravery and dedication to our nation is appreciated more than you’ll ever know!
