Do you have any tattoos?
I have one inspired by one of my heroes, the late Congressman John Lewis.
Do you have any tattoos?
I ask because I have this one that was inspired by one of my heroes, the late Congressman John Lewis.
The Black heart represents the struggle of Black people. It’s a struggle every Black American faces throughout their life. As a Black man, running for Congress, that’s the ultimate sign I’ve persevered through the struggles.
The blood tears are for all the bloodshed Black Americans cast, especially from historic events like Bloody Sunday. Hundreds of Black heroes, like John Lewis, took beatings that day — and some even laid down their lives so that people like me could have a voice in our democracy.
And the red lightning symbolizes the chaos that ensues when you get into good trouble. Because like John Lewis said, “get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”
It’s because of my heroes that I have the opportunity to run for Congress and be one of the loudest voices fighting for our democracy. I’m following the path they carved for Black Americans.
Right now, I want to make a promise — when I’m elected to serve Maryland’s 5th district in Congress, I will support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act from Day 1.
It’s never been more important to defend voting rights as Republicans fight tooth and nail to gut what’s left of the Voting Rights Act and pass the SAVE Act to disenfranchise MILLIONS of voters.
Thank you,
Harry Dunn
